Hey, my name is Anna! I’m an art therapist intern here at Creative Connections Counseling. Working with the other art therapists and clients is such an exciting opportunity for me! I’m attending Edgewood University and pursuing licensure as a Registered Art Therapist (ATR) and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).
My love for art began as a small child, when my mother handed me crayons and paper. I went nuts scribbling with every color! From then on, I made art with anything I could touch: crayons, markers, paints, pipe cleaners, mud, lake clay, string, grass, glitter; the entire world was and still is my canvas for creativity. This desire to create followed me throughout my life, leading me to pursue an undergraduate degree in art with an emphasis in painting.
So how did I get from making mud art to painting faith-inspired pieces to art therapy? Well, I hit my head really hard. In 2019, I suffered a severe concussion. From this injury, I discovered art's healing abilities when paired with faith in Jesus. Art helped me cope with the emotional and physical challenges I faced as I grew in my relationship with Jesus.
Since then, I have poured my time and heart into serving Jesus by working in college ministry, art ministry, childcare, schools, and counseling settings. Through these experiences, I have developed my God-given gifts of patience, compassion, intentional listening, and sitting with people who are in different walks of life. I’m passionate about counseling people of all ages, especially children, teens, and young adults.
In my counseling career, I will honor the gift of free will. Therefore, I offer faith-based art therapy for those who are seeking it; however, I do not push faith on anyone. My goal is to meet people where they are in their faith. I am so overjoyed to help people build connection and resilience and create a strong foundation for healing through art.
